The World Affairs Council of Wilmington will be hosting WorldQuest Delaware in February 2012 in Arsht Hall on the University of Delaware's Wilmington Campus. WorldQuest Delaware was created in 2004 and is a high school competition on world affairs, countries, culture, foreign policy and international current events. The winning team will be sponsored to travel to Washington, DC in April 2012 to compete at the national level in Academic WorldQuest, hosted by our national organization, World Affairs Councils of America.
The competition consists of teams of four students each who must answer 10 questions in 10 catagories on international subjects. The subjects are selected by the national organization, but the 100 questions are written locally. The questions are presented in a Power Point format and the students on each team collaborate to determine the correct answer within about 15 seconds.
The 2012 subjects focus on the six top national security issues facing the US plus NATO: US Education - Competing Globally; US Energy Policy; US Economic Comptitiveness; Middle East; Afghaniston and Pakistan; China; NATO; UN Millenium Goals - Child Health; Azerbaijan; Current Events.
In prior years the winning Delaware teams competing at the national level have done very well. The WorldQuest Delaware winning team in 2004, Salesianum School, finished 2nd in the country while other Delaware teams have finished in the top 10 among 35 to 50 teams from across the country.
More details and registration information will be made available later in September.
